How to read the results
Equity is each player's average share of the pot if the hand were played out many times with no more betting. Compare it with your pot odds: if your equity is higher than the share of the final pot you have to pay, a call makes money in the long run.
Win counts outright wins and Tie counts split pots. When a hand has the nuts on the river, its equity is 100%.
Exact results or simulation
If every player's two cards are known, the calculator checks every possible board. Before the flop that is 1,712,304 boards for two players. If any seat is random, it deals up to 400,000 random run-outs instead, which is accurate to within about 0.2%.
Odds worth remembering
- A pair against two overcards, like 22 against AK, is close to a coin flip: about 52% to 48%.
- A higher pair against a lower pair wins about 80% of the time.
- A flush draw on the flop hits by the river about 35% of the time. See outs and the rule of 2 and 4.
- Aces win about 85% against one random hand, but only about 31% against nine. See the starting hands chart.
Questions players ask
- How does the poker odds calculator work?
- When every player's hole cards are known, it checks every possible run-out of the remaining board cards, so the result is exact. When some hands are left random, it deals hundreds of thousands of random run-outs and averages them, which is accurate to within a few tenths of a percent.
- What is the difference between win, tie and equity?
- Win is how often a hand wins the pot outright. Tie is how often it splits the pot with one or more players. Equity is the share of the pot the hand earns on average: wins plus its share of ties.
- How many players can I add?
- Up to 10, the size of a full ring table. Leave a seat empty and that player gets a random hand on every deal.
- Can I use it during a real-money game?
- Most online poker rooms ban real-time tools while you play. Use the calculator to study hands away from the table.
