Pot Odds
The ratio between the size of the pot and the cost of a call. It tells you how often you need to win for a call to pay off.
Formula: required equity = call ÷ (pot after your call). If the pot is $80 and you must call $20, the pot will be $100 and you need to win 20% of the time.
Compare that number with your equity. If your chance to win is higher than the required percentage, the call makes money over time. The odds calculator gives you the equity for any hand and board.
Example
Pot $60, opponent bets $30. You call $30 into a final pot of $120: you need 25% equity. A flush draw on the turn (about 19.6%) is not enough without implied odds.
Questions players ask
- How do you calculate pot odds quickly?
- Divide the amount you must call by the total pot after you call. A half-pot bet always requires 25% equity; a pot-sized bet requires 33%.
